New look

Over spring break, Laura and I decided to paint a wall in our kitchen. We bought new plates that have red and yellow in them and so we picked a yellow wall and then will get red accents. We had a slight problem because the yellow was not the right color so we decided to lighten it up with some white paint we had. Only here in Pucallpa, if you want any type of color is comes in oil-based paint and the white we had was latex paint. Soooo...as you can imagine it didn't mix very well. But in the end it turned out well. We did circles with the roller on the wall to mix the two colors and it actually looks really good. The last picture is what it looked like still wet...it looks even better now that it is dry. It was a fun adventure like everything else here in Pucallpa. Now we just need to find some great red accents to finish off the room.

Overcoming a fear!

Yesterday I overcame a fear that I didn't realize I had. The house I have been staying at this week has a deck that during rainy season goes out over the lake. Well the water is high enough now that you can jump off the deck into the lake. So Laura came over on Monday and jumped off...but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Then yesterday Marshall and Kimberly were out there and we decided to go sit on the deck. Of course you can only sit out there so long before you want to get in the water...the easiest way in...to jump! So Marshall and Laura put the ladder down and both of them jumped no problem. I just could not seem to get myself to jump off the deck into the lake. I tried multiple times and just as I would get the edge I would freeze up and couldn't jump. Well, I finally decided I needed to do it no matter how scared I might be. So I asked Marshall to push me in. He wasn't too sure about that because he didn't want to hurt me...but I knew it was the only way I would actually get in the lake. So he pushed me off the deck into the lake...and it was GREAT!!! After that I had no problem throwing myself off the deck into the lake below. We had a lot of fun jumping off and trying to make some big splashes...Marshall won! It feels good to be able to say that I have jumped off the deck and to know that I can do it again without a problem. Sadly, I don't have a picture so you will have to just imagine me jumping off a deck into a very brown lake below!

Field conference 2009

This past week was the SAM Peru field conference. It was a great week of fellowship, meetings and teaching in English. I helped out with the music and while it did make things a little more crazy for me...it was a good time. Here is a picture of Kyle, Rosemary, Matthias and me leading music.

This is everyone who attended the conference this year. There are a lof of us...see if you can find me.

The craziness continues...

School break officially started Friday at noon. Some would think that with break things would calm down...it would be more relaxing for the next two weeks...not true! The craziness continued right into the weekend and will continue this week as well. Saturday, Laura and I went with Marshall and we bought a new dining room table. It is big enough to fit 6 people comfortably with the food on the table. It is a wonderful feeling to sit down to dinner and have room for everyone and all the food!

After we bought our table, we of course had to set it up in the dining room and make it look all nice. I then worked on some power points for the music for conference. It has been crazy but I think I finally have everything for leading music this week ready...that is except for my voice. =) Leading music for conference was not really something I ever thought about doing...but now that I have been asked to do it, I am getting kind of excited to do it. We will see if I am still excited to it after tonight. I know God will use me no matter how horrible I might think my voice sounds. It is just hard to be ok with singing in front of others when you know that your voice is not what it used to be. So if you think about it this week...please pray that my voice will hold out through all the singing and that I will just get over myself and allow God to work through me.

Conference starts tonight and will continue through Thursday afternoon. I am glad for the time to gather with all the other SAM missionaries in Peru and just have some good time of fellowship. Before conference starts I will be going to another motocross race this afternoon...it will be fun and I am looking forward to some time outside getting some sun and getting dirty! =) Should be a great week...but probably a little crazy too. I will try to get some good pictures and post them sometime next week!
